Pilates is a form of low impact exercise that trains the body to move in safer, more efficient patterns of motion - this helps with injury recovery & prevention, aging, sports performance, & optimal health. Pilates conditions the entire body while lengthening and strengthening to improve muscle elasticity and joint mobility.
Pilates is both a physical and mental workout. It is known to relieve stress, helps develop a greater mind-body connection, & creates more body awareness.
Benefits of Pilates
Dancers of all skill levels need additional training outside of the studio in order to perform their best and reduce the risk of injury.
The skills used in Pilates compliment dance technique, and provide cross training to help improve dance skills in numerous ways. Pilates builds awareness of how movement works, where it comes from, and how to connect to it kinesthetically.
Dance movement tends to stress similar muscle groups because of repetitive movements – Pilates encourages muscle balance by working through full range of motion and building support in all layers of soft tissue.
